Case Study: Coach Services v. Triumph Learning LLC
This case study looks at the attempted trademark registration of the word "Coach." The word was registered by a purse selling company and then an education company tried to register the same work for its services and market. The court had to analyze likelihood of confusion, distinctiveness and the "dilution" rules under the Trademark Dilution Revision Act of 2006. This case study focuses on the court's analysis of all of these issues as it reviewed the decision of the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
